New accreditation enhances digital literacy program for Indigenous job seekers, supporting a shared commitment to diversity and practical community-focused education
Vancouver, B.C. – May 20, 2026 - Jelly Academy is proud to announce that instructor Anthony Wingham has been recognized as a TELUS Wise® Ambassador through TELUS Wise, TELUS’ award-winning program focused on online safety and digital well-being. This accreditation further enriches Jelly Academy’s Digital Literacy Course, integrating specialized TELUS Wise training to provide students with industry-leading insights into online safety and digital fluency.
As a TELUS Wise Ambassador and community leader, Anthony serves as an educator dedicated to fostering digital safety and proficiency. This expertise is vital in an era where essential services, from education and healthcare to financial management, have shifted almost entirely to digital platforms. By championing these initiatives, Jelly Academy aims to bridge the knowledge gap for individuals of all ages, including vulnerable youth and seniors, who may not have navigated the rapid evolution of the digital landscape as closely as their peers.
This partnership comes as Jelly Academy hosted its next Digital Literacy cohort from May 4-6, delivered in collaboration with Miziwe Biik. As a Toronto-based Indigenous Employment and Training centre, Miziwe Biik provides essential skills training and academic support to empower Indigenous job seekers. This specific session is designed with a dual objective: to equip participants with the digital essentials now mandatory across nearly every industry, and to establish a launchpad for future technical training and education. By securing this foundational knowledge, graduates gain immediate readiness to enter the workforce with the confidence to pursue more advanced career-paving certifications in the future.
The integration of the TELUS Wise curriculum and values into these sessions directly reflects Jelly Academy’s commitment to its partnership with TELUS, specifically the mandate to focus outreach on local Indigenous communities. Jelly Academy has long pioneered the belief that the digital landscape is most effective when it reflects the diverse Canadian population. To date, 100% of participants who have enrolled in the Digital Literacy course identify as Indigenous. By providing a bridge for those historically excluded from traditional education, Jelly Academy aims to ensure that every individual, regardless of background or financial standing, can gain access to digital fluency and safety awareness required for long-term career advancement and leadership in a digitalized world.
“Digital literacy is not just about learning how to use a computer,” said Anthony Wingham. “It is about confidence, safety, and making sure people can access the tools and opportunities that are now part of everyday life. As an instructor, I have seen how quickly learners grow when they are supported in a patient, practical, and culturally safe space. Becoming a TELUS Wise Ambassador allows me to bring even more value into the classroom, especially around online safety, digital confidence, and helping Indigenous learners feel prepared for work, education, and their next steps.”
Grounded in the shared commitment that digital literacy is a fundamental right, not a privilege, Jelly Academy is delighted to congratulate Anthony Wingham on his official certification as a TELUS Wise Ambassador. His dedication to digital education and community leadership embodies our goals of dismantling barriers and ensuring that every Canadian has the tools to navigate the digital world with confidence.
“Digital safety and literacy is the foundation for economic opportunity and community resilience,” said Patrick Barron, Vice-President, Corporate Citizenship & Sustainability, TELUS. “Anthony's commitment to bringing TELUS Wise programming to Indigenous job seekers through Jelly Academy exemplifies the kind of community-centered approach we need to ensure no one is left behind in Canada's digital economy. We're proud to support educators like Anthony who understand that digital safety and fluency are essential tools for success.”
