Since 2020, the way we conduct business and interact with the digital world has greatly changed, resulting in an increased need for digital marketing. To find out how the hiring process and job market has been impacted, we surveyed Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) across Canada to find out how their experience hiring digital marketers has changed over the few years.

We asked the CMOs these following questions:

  1. Since 2020 has it been easier or more difficult to find digital marketing talent?

    87.5% More Difficult
    12.5% The Same

  2. Since 2020 are you seeing more or less applicants for digital marketing staff postings?

    50% Less Applicants
    37.5% The Same
    12.5% More Applicants

  3. How has the quality of applicants for digital marketing staff postings been since 2020?

    50% Lower Quality
    25% Same Quality
    25% Higher Quality

  4. If hiring has been more difficult for digital marketing positions - what have you done to compensate for the issues?

    87.5% Hiring outside of Canada
    12.5% Headhunter
12.5% Tried to train in-house team

See our video below for a summary of our survey.

These results indicate that it has become increasingly difficult to find promising digital marketing talent within Canada, which has led to outsourcing work. Rapid training can boost the pool of Canadian talent, as well as fill the digital marketing skills gap. Digital marketing bootcamps, like Jelly Academy, can ensure people are job-ready with the necessary skills and qualifications as a digital marketer.
