Last week Toronto-based upskilling institution Palette Skills was named the national delivery partner for Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada’s Upskilling for Industry Initiative.
The initiative was introduced in 2021, but just last week the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced that a $250 million program will be launched to support short-cycle upskilling programs driven by industry needs in high-growth sectors.
The Government of Canada’s news release said that a competitive workforce is key for national economic growth but that “gaps are appearing between the demands of industry and skillset of available workers.” As such, the federal government announced it is taking further action to align the skills ecosystem with new industry demands. This funding is expected to help more than 15,000 Canadian workers, including those from under-represented groups, transition into careers in high-growth sectors.
Palette Skills is a national nonprofit that develops employer-driven upskilling programs to help innovative companies meet their talent needs and transition high-potential workers into growing careers. The organization was chosen as the national delivery partner through a merit-based application process.
Jelly Academy sends its warmest congratulations to Palette Skills. We are hopeful that this investment will begin to bridge the gap between Canada’s skills ecosystem and ever-evolving industry demands.
