Get Educated

    1. The first step is to enroll in a course to gain the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the industry. To fast track this process, we recommend starting with a bootcamp as you can get a great, skills-based education within a few months or weeks.

    2. Our Digital Marketing Bootcamp is one bootcamp that will help you gain 11 industry recognized microcredentials in as little as 7 weeks.

Update Your Portfolio

    1. Once you’ve completed your education, it’s time to build your portfolio! Creating or updating your current Linkedin profile with your new credentials is crucial to showing off your capabilities. Employers often look at your LinkedIn profile to get an idea of your background, knowledge and skills.

    2. If you would like to boost your online presence even further, you can build your own website using a no-code required website platform builder like Wix, Squarespace or Wordpress. Once your website’s up and running, you can add your new found credentials to it to round out your portfolio.

    3. Lastly, and most importantly, make sure to update your resumé with your newfound credentials and technical skills.

Search Your Network

    1. People often come across job opportunities through their network. Now that you’ve updated your LinkedIn profile, you can expand your connections! Add people you know in the industry, such as fellow graduates and instructors.

    2. Let them know you’re open to work on LinkedIn and keep an eye out for job postings within your network.

    3. Don’t hesitate to reach out to folks who work for companies you are interested in working for. You can ask them to meet with you for a chat to learn more about what they do.

    4. Browse the job boards for careers that are best suited for you. Don’t forget to set up alerts, so you’re notified when a relevant job is posted.

Perfect Your Interview Skills

We’re sure you’ve heard the saying, “Practice makes perfect,” and practice truly sharpens your skills!

Once you’ve secured an interview, then it’s time to practice your interview skills so you’ll feel confident the day of. Grab a friend, mentor, or family member and ask them to run through a few common interview questions with you.

    1. Some common questions are:

        • What are your strengths and weaknesses?

        • Tell me about your previous job experience.

        • Why are you interested in this job?

Lastly, do your research! It’s a good idea to read up about the company before your interview, just so you know a bit more about the company’s history and values.

Interview > Offer > Hired!

    1. On the day of your interview, make sure to dress appropriately (even if it’s online)! If it is online, ensure your computer is charged and running smoothly, you’re in a quiet space, and that you have a strong internet connection.

    2. After nailing the interview, expect them to follow up with a secondary interview or ask for your references. At this stage, you can also send a follow-up email expressing your interest and reaffirming some details covered in the interview.

    3. Once you get an offer, take your time to consider the pros and cons of the job, and other offers on the table, or negotiate the terms and conditions before you accept.

    4. Congratulations! You’ve accepted the offer and now it’s time to get ready for your first day at work.

With these 5 steps, we hope that you’ll find that it’s not so daunting to get started in digital marketing.
