Applying for jobs can be stressful, and so can figuring out what to include in your resumé - especially as it relates to jobs in digital marketing. We’ve put together some tips to help you hit all the right notes!

1. Know The Personality Of The Company You’re Applying To

Showing that you’ve taken the time to get to know the company you’re applying to can go a long way. Add in small details you’ve picked up from the company’s brand style such as colours or specific language they use. For example, make your section headings their main brand colour or if they have a very upbeat, bubbly tone in their brand messaging, try and match that tone in your cover letter.

2. Add Your Own Personality

Employers want to know what will differentiate each candidate from the rest. Adding your personality to your resume can help you stand out from other applicants. It can also help the employer tell if your personality would blend well with other employees. Don’t be afraid to add a section about your own personal interests on your resumé or cover letter and why that makes you the best candidate for the position.

3. Always Include a Cover Letter

Even if it isn’t required, always include a cover letter with your job application. This is your opportunity to shine in front of a potential employer. Cover letters don’t need to be long, less than 1 page is great. Here, you can introduce yourself in the first paragraph. This paragraph is the perfect opportunity for you to show your personality. The second paragraph will include an overview of your experience and how it relates to the position you are applying for. The third paragraph gives the conclusion as to why you would be a great fit for the position.

4. Include Your Digital Marketing Certifications

Make sure you include your digital marketing certifications, such as Google and Facebook, in your resumé. For many digital marketing jobs these can be requirements. Even if you don’t have all the required ones, having some certifications is better than none. Showing your certifications shows the employer you are dedicated and motivated to improve your digital marketing knowledge.

5. Show Your Budget and Campaign Management Skills

If you’re applying for a position at an agency, they’ll be looking for additional information such as total budget managed and the number of clients/campaigns managed at a given time. Be sure to highlight this information to show your campaign management skills.

6. Have a Digital Marketing Portfolio

A digital marketing portfolio is a document of your digital marketing accomplishments, such as ad campaigns with performance metrics, social media campaigns with performance metrics, and/or SEO tactics you implemented and MoM/YoY growth. If you are specialized in a specific area of digital marketing, your digital marketing portfolio will consist of your best performing ad campaigns on its respective platforms if you’re a digital ads coordinator, for example. It’s best to include a short summary of the strategy and tactics of each campaign you choose to present.
